With heavy hearts, the family of Diane Elizabeth Chryssanthis Krivo announce her passing on March 26, 2025, at age 85. She left this world surrounded by loved ones, hand-in-hand with her grandson. Every surviving member of her family visited during her final days; a testament to the light she brought while on earth and the depth of love shared by all for her.
Diane was born on October 6, 1939 in Schenectady, New York. An alumni of Albany’s Memorial Hospital of Nursing, she survived polio at 16 despite five years spent in an iron-lung. This life-threatening experience in her teenage years inspired Diane’s career in healthcare management, where she helped countless others as an ER nurse.
Politically active—Diane believed in civil rights advancement and fought for liberal causes. She became involved in the Wisconsin and later the Iowa Democratic Party and was a Delegate for George McGovern during his Presidential convention in 1972. She joined anti-war protests during Nixon’s inauguration and remained devoted to affecting progress throughout her life.
A fixture in her community, Diane served as a Vice President of the Millpond Homeowners Association, a member of Millpond’s Social Committee, and belonged to the Red Hat Society. She was an avid reader and master bridge player, engaging in clubs for both.
Diane had a talent for making those she cared for feel like the most important person in the room. She lived vibrantly, with a wonderful sense of humor and a frank, honest attitude. She treasured sending and receiving mail; her affection often materialized in thoughtful handwritten notes or cards for small holidays to her family.
Diane is survived by her son George and her daughter-in-law Karen, her brother Jim, and grandchildren Tom (Amy), Chrys (Lea), Kassandra (Dustin), Joseph, Victoria, Sophia, and her dog, Lilly-Lou.
She is preceded in death by parents James and Anne Chryssanthis; husband Frank; daughters Anne Louise Klein and Elizabeth Scarfo Brussell; and her dogs, Artemis and Emmy.
A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, April 4th, including a visitation from 9:00 – 10:30 AM at Faupel Funeral Home, funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, and an open-house reception from 12:30 – 2:30 PM at Millpond Estates Community Center.
Diane would love to be remembered by wearing yellow, her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice service at https://seasonsfoundation.org/donate/.
