Heaven gained the sweetest angel on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Jennifer Megan Sweet, born in Wausau, Wisconsin, on September 7, 1978, was a beacon of light and inspiration to all who knew her.
Jen’s journey is marked by extraordinary resilience, courage, and unwavering determination. After being diagnosed with cancer, Jen figured out how to make this "inconvenience" (in her eyes) work into her plans and align with her goals and aspirations. She continued working on her doctorate while getting treatments, eventually earning her Doctorate of Philosophy PhD, Educational Psychology (Measurement Statistics Evaluation and Assessment) from the University of Illinois Chicago in December 2016.
Throughout her life, Jen’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with her family. Her devotion extended beyond her family circle, as she was a loyal friend, a valued coworker, and a remarkable individual respected by all fortunate enough to know her.
Jen was extraordinarily dedicated to education and her career. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from University of Wisconsin River Falls in 2002. She then went to Oklahoma State University, earning her Masters of Science in Counseling and Student of Personnel in 2005, before earning her PhD. She loved working as Director of Assessment at DePaul University and never gave up on her plan to return to that position someday.
Jen was an inspiration to all around her. She was always a devoted student, and a hard worker. More than that, she always brought a sense of fun and possibility with her wherever she went. Her quick wit and humor brought light to tense situations, and diffused them quickly. When Jen was around there was always a sense of adventure. Hungry for knowledge, there was a sense of discovery whenever you were with her. She never stopped learning or teaching, and inspired those around her to do the same.
Jen is survived by her parents Fred and Cindy Sweet of Spring Hill, Florida, her siblings Tricia (Scott) Nest, Amy (Jeff) Dahmen, and Mike (Janet) Sweet as well as her beloved nephews and nieces Austin, Connor and Peyton Nest, Ashton, Mackenzie and Colton Dahmen, and Brielle and Brynlie Sweet. Uncle John (Mollie) Roever, and Aunt Ruby Sweet. Jen was preceded in death by her Grandparents Donald and Patricia Roever, Edward Sweet and Edna Sweet/Kargol, “Grandpa Bill” Kargol, and her Uncle Harvey Sweet.
The family would like to thank Grand Villa of New Port Richey and the amazing staff there for their love, care and support of Jen. You truly are extended family, and we are grateful for you. A special thanks to Gulfside Hospice, specifically Mariela for your love, support and guidance for us all.
