John Edward Whitmer, affectionately known as "Hippie John," passed away on August 24, 2024, at the age of 65.
Born on December 8, 1958 in Charles Town, WV, he spent his final years in Spring Hill, FL, where he continued his journey of spreading kindness and positivity to all who crossed his path.
John was a dedicated general contractor by trade, but his true legacy lies in the love he shared with his family. He is survived by brother: Wayne Douglas; sisters: Anna Louise and Martha Belle; his five children: Paul, Lorena, Brandy, Brittany and Amanda, as well as his twelve beloved grandchildren: Kayleigh, Joey, Vanessa, Omarion, Lyric, Logan, Avionna, Gavin, Kenzie, Levi, Declan and Kyngston. His greatest pride and joy came from being a father and grandfather, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandbabies.
A true free spirit, John was known for his vibrant personality and unique style, often seen in his tie-dye creations. He had a love for music, embracing a little bit of everything that brought joy to his heart. His defining traits included being funny, happy, blunt, and undeniably badass. John lived by the mottos "Positive Vibes Only" and "Peace and Love Always," which he embodied in his everyday life. John had a special gift for uplifting those around him. He would go out of his way to offer compliments and would selflessly give his last dollar if it meant someone else wouldn’t go without. His genuine warmth and charm left a lasting impact on everyone he met. A celebration of John's life will be held in honor of the man who brought so much joy and positivity into the world. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
