JOSEPH RAY EDWARDS

Joseph “Joe” Ray Edwards, also known as “Poppy”, age 92, passed away on January 27, 2025, in his home. 

Born on January 9, 1933, in Tallahatchie, Mississippi, Joe was the son of the late John and Althea Edwards. He graduated from Buda Township High School in 1951 located in Buda, Illinois and went on to join the Army. 

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Gerry Edwards, his children Michael (Pat Farrell), Patty, his 3 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his 11 siblings and previous spouse, Kathleen.

Joe was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he owned a commercial hog farm for approximately 15 years. He relocated to Florida where he began his investments in real estate. He continued this passion over the years through real estate.

A memorial service and military service will be held at Bushnell National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers to help fight diabetes  the family requests donations be made to Touched by Type 1 (www.TouchedbyType1.org).
