Marmaduke "Duke" Simms II

December 1, 1953 — March 10, 2025

Hudson

Marmaduke "Duke" Simms II died suddenly in Hudson, Florida, on Monday, March 10th 2025, at the age of 71.

An avid outdoorsman, luthier, motorcyclist, numismatist, and memephile - he was widely known for his top hats and steampunk affectations.

Duke was born and raised on Long Island New York. In his 40's, he relocated to Texas, and became a beloved educator in the Burleson school district. After the death of his wife Donna, he retired and moved to Florida to be near his mother and sisters.

Known his entire life as "Marching to a different drummer" he combined being so different with an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Loved by many, many people, he will be hugely missed by his daughters; grandchildren; siblings; and mother - as well as by generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

On Saturday, April 12th we will gather at Spartan Manor (6121 Massachusetts Ave, New Port Richey, FL) to remember and honor Duke's impact on all of us. There will not be a formal service, but all are welcome to come by, have a drink, a bite, and visit (for however long you'd like) between 11am and 5pm.

As the tattoo near his heart (in memory of his cousin Allie) attested, Duke strongly supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Here are three links (use any, as you wish) to Allie's Wonderland, supporting their annual AFSP Out Of The Darkness Overnight Walk:

To honor Duke, dare to share a banned book - because a mind, once expanded, can never return to its previous dimensions.
