It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Robert Louis Freitag on October 24, 2024. He passed very peacefully at home with his wife, Gina, by his side after a short courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Rob was born on November 19, 1944, in New York City to Otto and Catherine Freitag. He is survived by his wife, Gina; his sons, Erik, Chris and Adam; daughters-in-law Lisa and Doreen; stepchildren Tara Atchley (Josh) and Travis Dennis (Ky); sisters, Catherine Bill and Elizabeth Bockholt; many grandchildren, nephews, nieces and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frederick Freitag.
Rob’s love of the Lord grew even stronger in his later years, and he would be the first to tell you that is what brought him peace when he heard of his diagnosis. He said he was at peace, and he truly was. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in New Port Richey, FL and made the choice to proclaim his faith by being baptized at the age of 79. One of his biggest joys came from singing in the church choir. He loved music and it was always a big part of his life.
Rob retired after 25 years with ATT then spent 20 years as a Registered Nurse after graduating valedictorian of his class. Rob was fiercely loyal to his friends and he always had your back. He was very open about his love for his family and was always there for any and every family event because they were all important to him.
Rob was one of the founding members of the Seibukan Dojo in 1991. He taught the karate class for over a decade, and brought up many students who continue to train, and teach others today. More recently he loved helping coach the tournament team at Ingrams Okinawan Karate.
Rob was an accomplished, senior martial artist in Isshinryu Karate and Sosuishiryu Jujutsu. He spent his life training and even well into his late seventies earned another black belt in Tokushinryu Kobudo and was embarking on another martial arts journey training in RyuKyu Kobudo-Tesshinkan. Rob remained on the floor training, and mentoring others in his last days. His tenacity and work ethic, and love for the martial arts is something to be admired, and emulated.
His wisdom, and counsel has been sought out by too many to mention. His sense of humor has blessed us all with countless stories to share and his memory is a blessing for us all.
Rob was a warrior, on and off the mat. He was a good and decent man. He was a mentor, a teacher, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the best he could possibly be and lived a life worth living.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church missions.
