Camilla R Johnson

d. November 13, 2019

Camilla R. Johnson of Holiday, FL passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 13, 2019. She is survived by sons Mike Burns (Orlando, FL), Mark Johnson (Portland, OR), Greg Johnson (Conway, SC), Bradley Johnson (New Bern, NC) and daughter Kim Sinclair (Pasadena, CA), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cam was born August 10, 1930 in Perkins, OK and grew up in Guthrie, OK, where she became a Christian and grew in her walk with the Lord. She worked for a bus station in town and met her future husband Warren Burns who was the manager. They soon moved west to southern California where their two children were born and raised mostly in Huntington Beach. She loved the ocean and walking by the sand with the waves crashing and birds overhead. A move was made to Bellevue, WA where Cam and her family became involved with Overlake Christian Church in Kirkland, WA, and she loved singing in the choir.

Later in life, while single and living in Seattle, Cam met pastor and missionary Don Johnson with a nudge from her good friend Evelyn Ladd. They married in 1980 and ministered at West Linn Christian Church (Portland, OR). After retirement, Don and Cam served four years in Kenya, developing and building the Narok Church of Christ (CMFI), fulfilling Cam’s dream since age 16 of serving on the mission field. They continued ministry on staff at Seaside Christian Church (Seaside, OR) and Florence Christian Church (Florence, OR) well into their retirement years. They also enjoyed fishing in their small boat off the Oregon coast and waterways.

Cam was committed to the Lord, faithful in ministry and devoted to family. She made an impact on those around her with her joyful personality and determined spirit. Upon a final move to Florida, she and Don attended Generations Christian Church (Trinity, FL) where Don’s son, Greg, was pastor. Don passed away Feb. 20, 2018. Services will be held at Sunshine Christian Home (Holiday, FL), on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM and at a later date in Oregon- details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Preston & Kristin (Cam and Don’s granddaughter) Coursey’s mission work in Thailand, CMFI, PO Box 501020, Indianapolis, IN 46250-6020.
